Hand Rankings

Every poker hand consists of 5 cards. Poker hands are ranked so that the player with the higher ranked hand wins. When players have a hand in the same category (for example, if two players have a flush), then the person with the higher cards wins. Regular poker does not include wild cards. Kickers (unrelated cards in your hand) are often used to determine who wins when hands are tied.

Category Example Details
Royal Flush A Royal Flush consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of the same suit. All suits have equal value.
Straight Flush A Straight Flush consists of any 5 consecutive cards of the same suit. When two players both have a Straight Flush, the player with the highest-ranking card wins.
Four of a Kind Four of a Kind consists of 4 cards of the same rank and any other card.
Full House A Full House consists of 3 cards of one rank (Three of a Kind) and 2 cards (Pair) of another rank. When two players have a Full House, the player with the best Three of a Kind wins.
Flush A Flush consists of any 5 cards of the same suit. When two players both have a Flush, the player with the highest-ranking card wins.
Straight A Straight consists of 5 consecutively ranked cards. The highest Straight is Ace-King-Queen-Jack-Ten. The lowest Straight is Ace-Two-Three-Four-Five. When two players have a Straight, the player with the highest card wins.
Three of a Kind Three of a Kind consists of 3 cards of one rank and any 2 other cards.
Two Pair Two Pair consists of 2 cards of the same rank along with another 2 cards of the same rank. If two players have the same Two Pair (for example, both players have 2 Eights and 2 Tens), then the player with the higher-ranking 5th card (also known as the kicker) wins.
One Pair One Pair consists of 2 cards of the same rank and any other 3 cards. If two players have the same Pair, then the highest kicker wins.
High Card High Card consists of any 5 cards that do not fall into any of the previously listed hands.
